Code of Conduct

4 November 2024

At HandyCon, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, safe, and enjoyable environment for everyone. We expect all attendees, volunteers, exhibitors, and staff to follow this Code of Conduct, which applies both at our conventions and across all online spaces associated with HandyCon (including our Facebook page, groups, events, member area, member profile, forum, and other social media channels).

  • Please be courteous and respectful to everyone. Every individual has an equal right to participate in and enjoy the convention. Pay particular attention to:

    • Respect for preferred pronouns and accessibility needs.

    • The right of individuals to use whichever restroom they are comfortable with.

    • Observing the etiquette of our Quiet Gaming Area.

  • For the comfort of all attendees, please maintain a high standard of personal hygiene. This includes:

    • Showering regularly.

    • Using deodorant or anti-perspirant as needed.

    • Wearing clean clothing and freshening up as necessary. Unpleasant odours can detract from the enjoyment of shared spaces, so please be mindful.

  • We welcome gamers of all levels and backgrounds. Please be mindful that:

    • Some attendees may be new to gaming, or may prefer games different from your own favourites.

    • Avoid behaviour that could be interpreted as dismissive, intimidating, or off-putting.

    • Offer advice only if it’s requested or clearly welcomed. At HandyCon, everyone is welcome, regardless of their experience or commitment to gaming.

  • While you’re welcome to enjoy a drink, please:

    • Respect others’ choices around alcohol. Do not pressure anyone to drink.

    • Recognise that many attendees may choose not to drink for personal reasons.

    • Remember that alcohol is never an excuse for loud, aggressive, or inappropriate behaviour.

  • Every attendee has the right to enjoy the event in a safe and respectful environment, free from harassment. This includes:

    • No unwanted sexual attention, remarks, or physical contact.

    • Refraining from inappropriate comments about gender, sexuality, or personal appearance.

    • Observing cues, whether verbal or non-verbal, that someone is uncomfortable. If you make someone uncomfortable, apologise and respect their boundaries. For further guidance, please refer to our Anti-Harassment Policy.

  • Violating the Code of Conduct may lead to one or more of the following actions:

    • A quiet conversation or private message with a HandyCon staff member.

    • Removal from the HandyCon Facebook page, group, or events.

    • Reporting of comments to social media providers, which may result in a ban.

    • Removal from the current HandyCon event and hotel site.

    • Exclusion from future HandyCon events, possibly permanently.

    • Involving the police, if necessary.

  • We recognise that mistakes happen and that receiving feedback can be challenging. In most cases, we will initially address any concerns through a respectful, private conversation or message. Our goal is to work together to maintain HandyCon as a welcoming and inclusive community.

Thank you for helping us make HandyCon a fantastic experience for all.
